Making the Most of Your Home's Interior Design

A common misconception that people have about interior design is that it is simply about the furniture that you get for your home. This is false, as it is not just furniture that affects the overall look of your home. One of the most important aspects of interior design is accessorising. Here are some tips that can come in handy when accessorising your home décor.

Take note of the empty spaces

Accessories should not make your home look cluttered. However, your home should not look too empty either, unless you are specifically going for a minimalist style. Have a look at the different spaces around your home. These could range from corners, to the floor and more. You can then fill these areas with accessories that match your interior design style. For example, a hallway would look much better with a carpet runner rather than bare flooring. Additionally, an empty corner would do well with a vase, rather than leaving it empty.

Choose accent colours

The colour scheme of your home is an important part of your interior design. However, most people do not consider the difference an accent colour would make to their home décor. Accent colours are a great way of uplifting the look of a room. All you have to do is pick a focal wall where you will paint the accent colour. When making a choice of an accent colour, ensure that it contrasts with the main colour scheme. For example, if your walls are light yellow, pick an accent colour such as a bright red.

Make use of mirrors

Mirrors are one of the most underrated methods of accessorising your home decor, yet they are one of the most effective. The great thing about mirrors is that they can be installed anywhere, from hallways to living rooms. If your living space is tiny, hanging up a large framed wall mirror will not only make the wall look like it has some art, but it will also give the illusion that the living room is much larger than it really is. In addition to this, mirrors increase the amount of light in a room by reflecting the light that is already there, thus making them a great option for home décor.

Have a focal point

This is essential in every room, especially the living room and the bedroom.  A focal point will make the room look balanced. For example, in most living rooms, the focal point would be the entertainment area.
