Tips for Choosing the Right Skip Bin for Residential Use

Renting a skip bin is not something that most homeowners do regularly, but a skip bin can mean keeping your property clean during a renovation project and can also make a spring cleaning or attic cleanout job much easier on you overall. You may be surprised at your options for a skip bin for residential use, so note a few tips for choosing the right size and type.

Trailer bins

A trailer bin is one that you tow or haul behind your car. These have a few advantages over other bins; you can easily take your rubbish to a landfill or recycling center as many times as you need during your cleanout without needing the skip bin company to come and empty the bin repeatedly. If you want to make money from items that can be recycled such as appliances, old car parts, and the like, the bin makes it convenient to simply drive them to a recycling center. You can also more readily move and relocate a trailer bin on your property; if you need to move the bin across the width of your property for a roof tear-off or other such type of job, a trailer bin can be safer and easier to move than a large bin that you would need to move manually.

Wheelie bins

Wheelie bins are smaller and more lightweight and may resemble your home trash cans; these are often used when you have rubbish that can be recycled but which needs to first be sorted. You might get a wheelie bin for cleaning out all those old newspaper in the attic and then another one if you need to toss out landscaping debris. These are very lightweight so they're good for indoor use; you can often simply wheel the bin to the area of the home when needed, but of course you need to ensure you don't overfill them or get them so heavy that you can't take out of the home when they're ready to be emptied.

Walk-in bins

If you need a larger skip bin for your job, it's almost always recommended that you get a walk-in bin. This will have a door or ramp that folds down completely on one side. This makes it safer to load the bin; you can simply walk up the ramp or through the opening and dump out your wheelbarrow or toss in your items, without having to manage getting them over the tall wall of the bin. Be sure you note the clearance needed for this door or ramp when choosing a walk-in bin so it doesn't run into your house or garage and can easily fit your property.
